This is a very good hardcover copy of this color-plate book with slight scuffing to the elaborately gilt-embossed brown textured cloth covers, and some foxing to both plates and text, but generally clean. White moire silk endpapers. No date, but ca. 1850, this book is one in a series brought out by the publisher. This one shows animals in zoo-like settings in a "Jardin des Plantes", or botanic garden. The lithographs are all hand-colored in greens and browns on pale cream-colored sheets, and show exotic animals like camels, elephants, zebras, primates, antelopes, ostriches, etc. Oblong folio, 9 1/2" high X 12 1/2" wide, 43 pages, 20 hand-colored lithographs, also 140 woodcuts in the text.
